Great the mystery, Lord Jesus

Great the mystery, Lord Jesus,
To our hearts in Thee made known,
God has fully been revealèd,
Thou hast all His glory shown.
Perfect deity and manhood,
Wondrously in Thee we view,
Manifestly God incarnate,
Holy, spotless, tender true.

Seen of angels, with what wonder,
They beheld Thy lowly birth,
Saw Thee hungered in the desert,
Tempted too, O Lord, on earth.
In the garden bowed with sorrow,
With Thy sweat like drops of blood,
Angels marvel as they tend Thee,
Precious Saviour, Son of God.

Greater still the matchless wonder,
Of Thy love to fallen man,
As we see Thee bruised and dying,
Who its height or depth can span?
Triumphing in resurrection,
And believed on here below,
We behold Thee now in glory,
And we joy Thy love to know.
