I scarce can tell

Tune: Londonderry Air
Listen to this tune [MIDI]

I scarce can tell, how Christ the Lord of glory
Should'st spare a thought for such a worm as I,
Or why to ransom helpless guilty sinners,
His precious blood was shed on Calvary;
I only know, it passeth understanding,
It is so vast, I scarce can take it in,
That cleansed and sanctified, restored, forgiven,
I should enjoy, e'en now, God's wondrous peace within.

And yet He tells me, 'twas because He loved me,
He died for me upon the cross of shame,
That I might dwell with Him, in yonder glory,
He sought and saved me, blessèd be His name;
And every day upon my pilgrim journey
He holds my hand, and guides me with His eye,
For He has promised He will never leave me,
Until at last He brings me to His home on high.

But oh what joy, what wondrous joy awaits me
When I shall see my Saviour face to face,
When in that bright eternal day of glory
He clasps me in the fold of his embrace;
Eternal Lover, precious Heavenly Bridegroom,
Thy precious love is more than tongue can tell,
Ten thousand, thousand, round the throne surrounding,
With utmost joy, shall there Thy praises ever swell.
